February Update

It’s mid-February, and we have officially kicked off the DWW+ programming. We just completed our first script workshop on the AFI campus, and got to meet in person!

To be honest, I was a little nervous going into the workshop. These reviews leave you very vulnerable, and when you have a harsh teacher or a group concerned with competing, they can be really unpleasant.

But I left the long weekend feeling energized and inspired. Our instructor Lisanne (who runs workshops with Cinestory) was so kind, gentle, and taught us all not only about writing, but also note-giving. She always led us to ask questions and keep the writers’ vision intact.

And my cohort is just incredible. I feel like I left the weekend with seven new friends, all of whom have amazing stories to tell. It feels like we all have each others’ backs, and I’m so excited to keep getting to know them as a bonus in this creative journey.

Some other quick news:

  • We have two producers joining the team to help us execute this project: Phoebe and Ryan! I’m so excited to have their expertise as we start drafting project budgets and schedules. I respect them both so much (Ryan and I are old friends; Phoebe is a new acquaintance but I’m so impressed by her work).

  • We have a locations manager: Evie! Evie and I worked together as little people on a huge movie. Talking to her on set was always a highlight of the day. It feels like such a privilege to have her help on this, and to be able to make something together. She has the connections to get us exactly what we need (for the right price).

  • We have raised 1/5th of our total crowdfunding goal! This seed funding is going to be a huge help as we hire our team. The more time we have to prep, the better the whole project will go. You can donate here and contribute to our momentum!

As we move into March, we will be focusing on casting and securing locations. Getting a head start there will give us a great foundation for camera tests and creative meetings in April.

Thank you for reading, and your support.
